Sun Care Guide: How to Clean & Maintain Your Sunglasses

Cleaning Your Lenses (The Right Way)

1.       Rinse First: Always rinse your lenses under a gentle stream of lukewarm tap water to remove dust and sand particles. This prevents scratching during wiping.

2.       Use a Cleaner: Apply a small drop of lens cleaner specifically designed for eyewear. Avoid: household glass cleaners, window sprays, or solvents, as they can damage anti-reflective and mirror coatings.

3.       Wipe Gently: Use a clean, 100% microfiber clothWipe the lenses in a circular motion. Avoid: using paper towels, napkins, your shirt, or any rough cloth, as they can scratch the lenses.

4.       Dry (if needed): Use a dry part of the microfiber cloth to remove any remaining moisture.

Daily Handling & Usage

Use Two Hands: Always put on and take off your sunglasses with both hands to prevent bending the frames out of shape.

Store Properly:When not in use, always store your sunglasses in their hard protective case with the lenses facing upward. Never just throw them into a bag or purse where they can get scratched or crushed.

Face Up or Down: When placing them on a surface, lay them down with the lenses facing up to avoid scratching them. Better yet, fold them and put them in their case.

Keep Away from Heat:Do not leave your sunglasses in a hot car, on the dashboard, or near other direct heat sources. Extreme heat can warp the frames and damage lens coatings.

What to Avoid

Extreme Heat:As mentioned, high temperatures are a primary enemy of sunglasses.

Saltwater & Chlorine:After exposure to saltwater or chlorine, rinse your sunglasses thoroughly with fresh water as these can be corrosive.

Harsh Chemicals: Keep your sunglasses away from hairspray, perfume, sunscreen, and insect repellent. If they get on your glasses, clean them immediately.

Pressure:Avoid sitting on your sunglasses or placing heavy objects on top of them.

Special Considerations

Polarized Lenses: Clean them the same way as regular lenses. Be aware that polarization filters can be damaged by extreme heat or harsh chemicals.

Mirror-Coated Lenses:Be extra gentle, as the mirror coating is on the outside of the lens and can be scratched or peel if mishandled.
